Teeth Grinding

Unconscious clenching or grinding of the teeth, otherwise known as bruxism, is a common problem that often goes untreated. Although the causes of teeth grinding are unclear, it can be related to stress, sleep, dental work and even trauma, causing pain and discomfort for the patient.

As a result of prolonged clenching/grinding, our muscles can develop just as they would in the gym if we continued to exercise them. By treating the masseter muscle with anti-wrinkle injections, we are able to block nerve signals resulting in a reduced ability to contract the muscle as tightly, preventing clenching and grinding teeth.

As a bi-product of reducing this muscle function, we can soften the angle of the jaw creating a softer lower third of the face and displaying a more defined jaw line. Effects from jaw clenching/teeth grinding are noticeable after 1/2 weeks and face contour softening will be expected around 6/8 weeks.
