Thread veins are small blood vessels that run close to the surface of the skin, making them more noticeable.   They look like thin red or occasionally purple or blue threads, often occurring around the nose and across the cheeks and chin (sometimes referred to as spider veins due to the web-shaped appearance). They can also appear in different areas of the body, typically the legs. They can be caused by a number of factors including overexposure to the sun, drastic changes in weather, changes in pressure, excessive alcohol consumption, environmental irritants, rosacea, hormonal changes, or simply genetics.

We can treat thread veins using two different technologies, the most suitable will be determined during consultation once we understand your concerns and can examine the skin thoroughly, providing a bespoke treatment plan tailored to you.

Our ThermaVein treatment offers an extremely safe, quick and relatively painless technique that can immediately remove facial veins often found in the cheeks, nose and chin, restoring skin tone and client confidence. Using the power of heat energy from high frequency currents to produce a thermal pulse, ThermaVein uses a process known as thermocoagulation to warm up the protein in the blood, sealing the thread vein walls, causing the vein to disappear.  The treatment is exceptionally safe and uses a fine needle to target the vein with precision and can be used on any skin type with instant results.

Our LUMINA®️ machine applies light energy where it is readily absorbed by the bloody vessels, heating them to the point where they are destroyed. Following treatment, the vessels quickly clear as they are reabsorbed by the body, leaving little or no trace of the original lesion.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does it hurt?

It depends on the area that is being treated. The sensation can be more uncomfortable in certain areas e.g. the nose, but it is tolerable and short lived.

How many sessions will I need?

Thermavein can administer up to 500 shots to treat a specific surface area. You may need several sessions depending on the size of the area in question, which will be determined during your consultation. The number of IPL sessions required varies dependent on the client, although we always recommend a course of treatments. A minimum of 3 and up to 6 treatments at four week intervals deliver the best results, depending on the skin concern.

How long does it last?

Results vary for both treatments but it can be permanent. Sometimes you may develop other vessels close to the surface near the treated area so a further treatment may be required in the following years.

What is the downtime?

You can expect to be slightly red from the Thermavein treatment, which can take 1-2 days to subside. There may be some white small scabs to the area but they are barely noticeable. You can continue to wear make up and carry out your normal daily activities. For IPL, the skin will feel warm for a few hours and there may be some swelling in more delicate areas.

Are there any side effects?

Both treatments can cause some redness and swelling and in rare cases, you may experience slight bruising or blistering but both treatments are generally tolerable with little downtime.

Who is suitable?

Anyone who suffers with visible red veins to the face. Thermavein can also be used to treat thread veins to the legs however a full consultation will be required to determine if you're a suitable candidate for this treatment. For IPL treatment, best results are obtained for lighter skin types although we will determine your suitability for treatment during your consultation.
